Recently, the Morgan Journal had the pleasure to shoot with incredibly the talented milliner, Christine Baker. After creating custom pieces of wearable artwork for several years, Christine has put together a small collection to showcase her work ahead of this year’s race season. With a style that is both feminine and highly structured, Christine walks a tailored yet floral line.
Collaborating also with the wonderful Donna & Alex of Florence & Marabel Collections, Courtney B Hair & Makeup and model, Constance Bailey, this look-book will have you totally ready for race season!
How did Christine Baker Millinery begin?
About 4 years ago I did a weekend course with master milliner Elaine Merghard, arrived with a flat piece of sinnamay, some wire and a handful of feathers and by the end of the weekend left wearing a Raceday hat. I was hooked.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I love fashion, all sorts of fashion, but particularly vintage. Audrey Hepburn is my icon. I do take inspiration from current trends as well. I try to be versatile to accomodate for a wide range of fashion and clientele.
Inspiration comes from everywhere I guess. I’m a visual person, I usually go into creating a piece with very little in mind just the basic structure and from there it grows as I see it take shape.
Do you have a favourite style to create?
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite style, I love experimenting with different materials and mediums. I have to admit that you can’t beat a classic black and white number.
